Freight train derails near Mineola

On the morning of July 6th, a Union Pacific train derailed near Mineola. The derailment occurred just west of CR 2790 near the Hoard Community about 3:30 a.m. It caused some fence and land damage. There were no injuries. Crews were immediately dispatched to assess the damage and to begin clearing the area. A spokesman said there was sand and lumber on the ground and that about 700 feet of rail would need to be replaced.

The train was carrying mixed freight and was traveling from Pine Bluff to Fort Worth. The train consisted of three locomotives and 98 rail cars. The company hopes to have the area cleared by this week.
