Wood County Commissioners Court

Meeting in weather-delayed session Friday, February 11, Wood County Commissioners addressed a routine set of agenda items which included approving local option liquor elections in the municipal elections in three Wood County communities.
Liquor elections are ordered for May 14, 2011 in Hawkins, Mineola and Alba by vote of the commissioners after the Dawn Criddle, Elections Administrator advised the court that all requirements had been met in the petition process. Only registered voters in the communities are permitted to vote on the issue. (see related story this issue)
Commissioners also approved a contract with AuctioneerExpress.com to buy and sell equipment and supplies. The service is a participating member of TAC.
The commissioners recognized Jonathan Alan Haskett, Quitman, for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. Haskett is a member BSA Troop 36 in Quitman.
In other action the court approved:
- a two-week County payroll of $288,639.75.
- employee and family health claims of $65,549.25.
- claims and payments totaling $401,778.39.
- appointment of Jason Henderson to the Wood County Industrial Commission representing the City of Mineola.
- appointment of Gary Hester to the Upper Sabine Valley Solid Waste Management Board of Directors.
- appointment of 19 members to the Wood County Historical Commission Board of Directors, including Jewel McCalla and Withell H. Hall, both of Hawkins.
- authorization of letter of credit with Bank Texas for the purchasing of road oil.
- authorization of a resolution for Bank Texas to handle county's accounts.
- additional pledged securities under bank depository account.
- Criminal District Attorney's grant renewal application for Victim Services Project FY 2011-2012.
- burial expenses of $200 from Salem Cemetery Association.
Personnel actions include:
- Tracy Edwards Parker, new hire, Community Services Supervisor, Community Services Department, $50,000/annually.
- Gerald Dwayne Brewer, new hire, Foreman, R&B Pct-4, $14.25/hour.
The next regular meeting of the Wood County Commissioners Court will be Friday, February 18, 2011 at 10 a.m. A special meeting of the court can be called with 72-hour public notice.
