Someone once said, "I wonder if in music we see another variant and consequence of what it means to be made in the image and likeness of God, and of the divine inbreathing. A seed or a spark of the divine is planted in the depths of our being. Some people, with a sensitive and intuitive ear for sound, might experience this as music. Take for instance, a composer such as Beethoven. In the depths of the night, or out for a walk in the forest, he becomes aware of a tune or harmony. Slowly the symphony takes form. Later a conductor comes along with an orchestra (whose members are also made in the image and likeness of God) and they put on a concert. The audience, with a feel for music, enjoy the performance. Dare we say - that something akin to divine performance has taken place? It is no accident that music plays such an important part in worship in a church. But why restrict it to a church building? Music is everywhere."

A number of weeks ago, our church hosted a group called the "Houston Korean Christian Chamber Ensemble." Those in attendance were truly blessed by these South Korean Christian musicians, who played classical as well as Christian music. It was, to quote a phrase just mentioned, a "divine performance."

First UMC, Hawkins will be hosting another J.A.M. (Jesus and Me) Music Day Camp, Monday, July 12th - Thursday, July 15th from 9 am to 12 pm. The camp is for those in Kindergarten through the 5th grade. We look forward to God's Presence and your child's presence, as we practice for future divine performances.
