Meeting in regular session Friday, June 25, Wood County Commissioners approved acceptance of a bid to purchase a mobile command trailer for use by the county, accepted the annual report of the Wood County Industrial Commission and renewed the contract with Russell Acker to serve as On-Site Septic Inspector.
The cost of the mobile command trailer-$153,975-will be paid for entirely through a Department of Home Security grant. The winning bidder was Mobile Specialty Vehicles. A second bid by Ferrara Fire Apparatus was $189,018 and a third prospective bidder, Performance Trailer, chose not to bid.
Gary McKinley, executive director of the Wood County Industrial Commission and Ken Donahue, chairman of WICI presented the organization's annual report (June 2009-to-June 2010) to commissioners. The report's opening statement provides a summary that cites "a sluggish economy" with some evidence that "the economic conditions for the past year seem to have bottomed out in the 4th quarter of 2009 with some of the slow recovery in evidence at the beginning of 2010." But the report also cites some positives including the Praxair and Exxon/Mobil expansions which will bring investment and 400 workers into the local economy for the next two years. Nestle Waters continues to be the dominant employer in the county with more than 250 employees. The report also cites positive efforts by the county's six incorporated communities to improve quality of life and encourage economic development.
The contract of the On-Site Septic Facility Representative was renewed with Russell Acker who has served as Wood County's Inspector for the past five years. The contract terms, including fees charged for the services of the inspector remain the same as last year with single family residences at $265, multifamily and commercial at $450.
In other action the court approved:
- a two-week County payroll of $293,901.70.
- claims and payments totaling $421,692.74.
- employee and family health care claims of $129,727.56.
- annual contract for the IT system printer used primarily by the court clerks at an annual cost $720.
- VINE grant for FY 2011 which provides funding for a notification system for victims of developments in their cases. The 12-month contract provides for $18,283 in grant funds to Wood County.
Personnel actions include:
- Bobby Harrold Mathis, new hire, seasonal temporary, Pct-1 R&B, $9.00/hour.
- Jerry Ray Gaskill, Jr., salary increase (step & grade) Laborer II, Pct-4 R&B, $15.31/hour.
