Wood County Industrial Commission
WCIC tours Preserve;
Receives $35K Co-op
By JOHN SPARKS

Meeting in regular session Thursday, September 3 at the Mineola Preserve Pavilion, the board of the Wood County Industrial Commission (WCIC) toured the nature preserve and received word of a $35,000 infusion of operating capital.
The meeting, hosted by the Mineola delegation, featured a tractor drawn tour over much of the grounds of the 3,000+ acre nature preserve. Deer and wild hogs were in abundance as were numerous species of birds. The preserve is becoming a major attraction for those seeking an exposure to nature.
Executive Director Gary McKinley advised board members of this year's income from the unclaimed capital credits of co-operative membership electric utilities serving customers in Wood County. McKinley said $35,000 would be deposited into WCIC accounts as a result of those credits. In past years the credits have averaged about $6,000 annually.
As a part of his monthly report, Executive Director Gary McKinley reported five new tax permit application were processed for businesses in Hawkins and one for Holly Lake for the month of August. Mineola had 10. There were 26 issued throughout the county for the month. McKinley also reported that the newly redesigned web site for the WCIC has been launched.
The next meeting of the Wood County Industrial Commission is scheduled for Thursday, October 1, 2009, at 7 p.m. The Jarvis Christian College Delegation will host the meeting.
