Sheriff's Report

The assistance of the public is requested
The Wood County Sheriff's Department is asking county citizens to be aware of the growing number of burglaries and thefts in our county.
Although the sheriff's department strives to patrol all areas of the county, it has limited resources. The department requests that you contact the sheriff's office and report any suspicious activity in your neighborhood.
You likely know which vehicle belong in your area and may notice things that don't seem normal. Do not hesitate to call the sheriff's departments so that they can respond and identify the situation. The number is 903-763-2201
June 9th: Deputies were dispatched to Main Street in Yantis with regard to a burglary of a motor vehicle. The complainant advised that unknown suspect(s) broke the driver's side window on the complainant's van. A purse and a cell phone were taken. The case is under investigation.
June 8th: Deputies were dispatched to CR 3875 in Hawkins with regard to a burglary. The complainant advised that unknown suspects removed a welder, a leaf blower and several other items from the complainant's storage building. The case is under investigation.
June 7th: Deputies were dispatched to CR 4200 in Winnsboro with regard to an assault. The complainant advised that her husband threatened her and chased her to the bedroom. Thomas William Hyatt was arrested for assault/family violence by threat.
June 6th: Deputies were dispatched to PR 8692 in Winnsboro with regard to a report of criminal mischief. The complainant advised that unknown suspect(s) damaged a sign at the entrance to Big Wood Springs. The case is under investigation.
On the same date, deputies were dispatched to PR 8692 with regard the burglary of two homes. The complainant advised that unknown suspect(s) had broken into the complainant's weekend houses. They removed a VCR, a dining room table and chairs, a television, a bedroom set and several other household items. The complainant advised that they had not been to the homes since October 2008. The case is under investigation.
June 5th: Deputies were dispatched to Hwy 69 in Mineola with regard to a burglary. The complainant advised that unknown suspect(s) removed several items from a storage building. The case is under investigation.

June 3rd: Deputies were dispatched to a burglary on Hwy 80 east of Mineola. The complainant advised that unknown suspect(s) had entered his residence and removed several prescription medications along with some jewelry. The case is under investigation.
June 2nd: Deputies were dispatched to a disturbance on Hwy 154 west in Yantis. Christopher Sherman Mott advised that he was assaulted by Jennifer Golkowski. Golkowski was arrested for assault by contact/family violence.
June 1st: Deputies met with a complainant in the lobby of the sheriff's department with regard to identity theft. The complainant advised that unknown suspect(s) have been using the complainant's driver's license number on a bank account. The case is under investigation.
On the same date, deputies were dispatched to CR 1807 in Yantis with regard to a criminal mischief report. The complainant advised that suspect(s) had entered the residence by breaking a window. The deputies were advised that nothing was missing. The case is under investigation.
May 30th: Deputies were dispatched to FM 2088 and FM 2869 in Quitman on a report of a vehicle fire. The complainant advised that he had his truck with his four-wheeler in the bed of the truck which was parked about 100 yards from where he was burning brush. The complainant advised that he looked up and saw a cloud of smoke. When he went to investigate, he saw that the corner of his truck was on fire.
May 29th: Deputies were dispatched to CR 2176 in Quitman with regard to a burglary. The complainant advised that several items were removed from her home. The complainant advised that she knew who had her property. The case is under investigation.
May 28th: Deputies spoke to a complainant by phone at the complainant's request due to the time of night. The complainant advised that unknown suspect(s) had removed a gate on his property on CR 3836 in Hawkins. The complainant advised that suspect(s) had removed the gate from the hinges. The suspect(s) stole over $2,700 in property. The case is under investigation.
On the same date, deputies were dispatched to CR 2326 in Mineola with regard to a burglary of a motor vehicle. The complainant advised that his vehicle was unlocked at the time it was burglarized. The case is under investigation.
