Backhoe bids sought;
Airport seeks grant

Meeting in regular session Friday, June 12, Wood County Commissioners Court voted to advertise for a used backhoe for Precinct-1. The court also approved a request for a grant initiative to the Texas Department of Transportation for an improvement project that would complete a parallel taxiway to the runway.
Precinct-3 Commissioner Roger Pace conducted the meeting in the absence of Judge Bryan Jeanes.
Commissioners approved a request by Precinct-1 commissioner Keith Gilbreath to advertise for the purchase of a used backhoe. The bids will be opened on July 9 with a purchase decision anticipated at the Friday, July 10 meeting of the court.
Wayne Collins, manage of the Wood County Airport received approval to seek a grant from the Texas Department of Transportation to fund the completion of a parallel taxiway to the airport's runway. The necessary work would involve dirt work to provide adequate drainage and erosion, construction of an electrical vault and the installation of wiring and conduit for runway lighting. The cost of the project is estimated at $870,000.
In other action the court approved:
- a two-week County payroll of $276,977.74.
- claims totaling $259,068.86.
- employee and family health care claims of $40,264.00.
- monthy reports (May) from all four Wood County Precinct Constables.
- set a public hearing for July 10 re the revision of the plat for the Flying "W" subdivision in Precinct-2.
- interlocal agreement with Hopkins County for the hauling of reclaimed asphalt materials.
- release of county's portion of an airport project refund from TxDot to the airport to be used to purchase a mowing tractor for the airport.
- contract for copier at the office of the Wood County Industrial Commission. Equipment is an upgrade replacement for a copier that has been in service for five years at a cost ($127.11/month) that saves $8.82 per month.
Personnel actions included:
- Jerry Ray Gaskill, Jr., new hire, seasonal temporary help, Precinct-4 road & bridge, $9.00/hour.
- Matthew Leon George, new hire, seasonal temporary help, Precinct-2 road & bridge, $9.00/hour.
The next regular meeting of the Wood County Commissioners Court will be Friday, June 26, 2009 at 10 a.m. A special meeting of the court can be called with 72-hour public notice.
