 The sheriff's office asks citizen to take note of any suspicious persons or vehicles at, or around, power lines, air conditioning units, or any place where copper may be located, to contact the Wood County Sheriff's Department at 903-763-2201.
In progress on criminal investigations recently reported, is the following: A forgery and a burglary in the Mineola area was solved and warrants were issued. A burglary in the Winnboro area was solved and one warrant was issued. Stolen property in the Mineola area and the Gilmer area led to three warrants being issued. The recovered property included jewelry, electronics and household items.
February 4th: Deputies were dispatched to CR 3287 with regard to a burglary. On arrival, deputies spoke with the complainant who advised that unknown person(s) had entered the residence and removed several items.
On the same date, deputies were dispatched to CR 2142 with regard to a disturbance. The complainant advised that she went to visit her grandfather when her aunt became upset and a verbal altercation ensued. Neither party wanted to pursue charges.
Also on this date, deputies were dispatched to CR 2693 with regard to an assault. On speaking with the complainant, deputies were advised that the complainant's brother and sister-in-law were mentally and physically abusing her son. The case is under investigation.
February 2nd: Deputies spoke with a complainant by phone who advised them that his mother is a victim of elderly abuse. The complainant advised that the victim had been suffering at the hands of a family member since September 2008. Adult Protective Services was notified and the case is under investigation.
Also on this date, deputies were dispatched to CR 1416 with regard to a report of animal cruelty. The owner's son advised that the horse in question was approximately 17 years old and was a little thin due to his age. Deputies noticed the horse had hay, feed and water. They will follow up on the condition of the horse.
Finally on this date, deputies were dispatched to County Roads 3450 and 3460 with regard to a report of several spans of copper wiring having been taken down from power lines. Several residents in the area were contacted. They advised they had not seen or heard anything suspicious in the area. The case is under investigation.
February 1st: Deputies were dispatched to CR 4200 with regard to a criminal mischief report involving a mailbox. The complainant advised that unknown suspect(s) ran over the mailbox pulling the post out of the ground. The case is under investigation.
January 31st: Deputies were dispatched to CR 2436 (Lake Brenda) with regard to a reckless driving report. The driver of the suspect vehicle ran over several mailboxes. There have been several reports from this area involving reckless driving, loud music and pipes. If you have any information or see anything unusual, please call the sheriff's department at 903-763-2201.
Also on this date, deputies were dispatched to FM 2088 (Big Wood Springs) with regard to a burglary report. The complainant advised that unknown suspect(s) had cut the locks off of his storage building and removed several items from the building. The case is under investigation.
January 29th: Deputies spoke to a complainant on the phone with regard to a theft on FM 39 at a drilling rig. The complainant advised that unknown suspect(s) had removed several tools valued at over $2,800.
January 27th: Deputies were dispatched to CR 2922 where the complainant advised that there were some railroad ties and household garbage in a yard. A public nuisance notice was issued and the homeowner was given 31 days to get the yard cleaned up. Deputies will follow up on this to ascertain that the yard is no longer a public nuisance.
On the same date, deputies were notified of a copper theft on FM 778. The complainant advised that suspect(s) removed three spans of copper wiring from an uninhabited building on an unknown date. The case is under investigation.
January 26th: Deputies spoke with a victim with regard to a dog bite. The complainant advised that he was at a residence on PR 8588 when he was bitten by the homeowner's dog. The property owner has quarantined the dog at a veterinary clinic for ten days. Deputies will follow up on the condition of the victim as well as the dog.
January 24th: Deputies were dispatched to CR 4590 with regard to several complainants that advised that their mailboxes had been damaged. They say the mailboxes were intentionally run over by a vehicle. Contact the sheriff's office at 903-763-2201 or 903-763-CASH if you have any information on this case.
January 23rd: Deputies were dispatched to Hwy 154 east with regard to an overdose. On arrival, the victim advised that she had been depressed and taken a handful of her medication. The victim was taken to ETMC at Quitman for observation.
On the same date, deputies were advised to contact a complainant by telephone with regard to harassment. The complainant advised that his daughter was repeatedly receiving calls on her cell phone and at her friend's residence, from an ex-boyfriend. Deputies contacted the suspect and the suspect advised he would not stop calling the complainant until she answered the phone. After deputies completed their investigation, Timothy Duane Anders was arrested for harassment and a warrant from the Alba Police Department for failure to yield right of way. Anders was also issued criminal trespass warnings with regard to the complainant's property.
January 22nd: Deputies were dispatched to PR 6963 with regard to a possible dispute. Shortly after their arrival, deputies noticed s passenger step out of a vehicle. On making contact, deputies noticed that the subject was unsteady on his feet and had a strong odor of alcohol emitting from his person. Brandon Taylor Freeman was arrested for public intoxication.
On the same date, deputies were dispatched to Hwy 37 south (Lake Fork mobile home park) with regard to a report of criminal mischief. The complainant advised that someone was walking around her home. The complainant called her neighbor and they walked around the house where they noticed a subject kicking in the back door of the residence. There is a suspect and the investigation is continuing.

On the same date, deputies were dispatched to South Main Street in Yantis with regard to a report of copper theft. The complainant advised that unknown suspect(s) had removed all the copper components from a gas pump. The case is under investigation. Copper thefts are rising. If you see anyone or any suspicious activity around gas pumps, air conditioners or any place that copper may be found, contact the sheriff's department at 903-763-2201.
