Wood County Sheriff Report

 January 5th: Deputies were dispatched to CR 2950 with regard to a burglary. The complainant advised that he noticed that the door jamb at the entrance to his home was broken. When he entered his home, he found that several items were missing. The case is under investigation.
On the same date, deputies responded to a burglary report on FM 2225. The property owner advised that several items had been taken from his barn.
Investigators recovered a stolen golf cart in the Quitman area. There are suspects in the case and the investigation is ongoing.
January 4th: Deputy Clint Norman was patrolling Hwy 37 east when he observed a vehicle behind him traveling at a high rate of speed. While investigating the traffic infraction, the deputy noticed items of drug paraphernalia in plain view. After further investigation, the deputy located a quantity of marijuana. The driver was placed under arrest for possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of dangerous drugs.
On the same date, deputies were dispatched to a structure fire on FM 2966. On their arrival, the home was fully engulfed in flames. The Yantis fire department was already on the scene and attempting to extinguish the fire. The home was vacant and did not have any utilities connected. The case is under investigation.
January 3rd: Deputies were dispatched to Hwy 154 with regard to a theft. The complainant advised deputies that his rods and reel were taken from his bass boat. The case is under investigation.
On the same date, deputies were dispatched to Lake Fork with regard to another theft call. The complainant advised of a theft loss of approximately $20,000. If you have any information, call the sheriff¢s department at 903-763-2201.
Also on this date, deputies were dispatched to a residence on CR 2502 with regard to an assault report. The case is under investigation.
On the same date, deputies were sent to the Paradise Island RV Park on PR 5534 with regard to a theft. The complainant advised that he discovered a dark colored vehicle in the area. Several locations around the lake reported thefts of fishing equipment. If you see anything unusual, please call the sheriff¢s department at 903-763-2201.
January 2nd: Deputies were dispatched to Fisherman¢s Cove with regard to reported criminal mischief. According to the complainant, a vehicle window was broken out and property taken from the vehicle. Witnesses advised that an alarm from the victim¢s vehicle went off and a white pickup truck was seen leaving the parking lot. Alba Police Officer Juan Ramirez was given the information on the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. Jose Espina was arrested for possession of stolen property. The property that was located was property that belonged to the victim.
January 1st: Deputies were dispatched to FM 515 east with regard to an assault. The victim was treated by EMS then taken to the emergency room at Quitman for further treatment. Later that same morning, deputies were dispatched to this same location with regard to a structure fire. The case is under investigation.
On the same date, deputies took a report on FM 312 with regard to a burglary. Numerous items were taken from a residence. This case is still under investigation.

During the period, there were 66 males and 10 females at the Wood County Jail for a total of 76. There were 20 bookings.
December 29th: Deputy Chris Bettis was dispatched to CR 1905 with regard to two intoxicated subjects. The complainant advised that two males said they were going to kick her door in. The complainant advised that both subjects left the area. Sgt. Coleman obtained information as to where the subjects may have gone. While he was at a stop sign at Hwy 154 and FM 515, he observed a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle. On making contact with the occupants of the vehicle, Daniel Kenny could not provide a valid driver¢s license. After a computer check, it turned out that Kenny did not have a valid driver¢s license. Kenny was arrested for having no driver¢s license. Deputy Bettis smelled the odor of alcohol on a passenger in the vehicle, Justin Pruden. All signs on Pruden indicated intoxication and he was arrested for public intoxication.
On the same date, deputy Threadgill was dispatched to 190 PR 5931 in response to a theft. On arrival, the complainant Robert Dyer stated that he noticed that someone had stolen his generator off his Ford Fleet RV. The case is under investigation.
Finally, on this date, Deputy Threadgill was dispatched to 275 PR 5552 in response to a criminal trespass issue. The complainant, Sam Coughanour, stated that he wished to have a criminal trespass warning issued to his neighbor, Joseph Spaits, to stay off his property.
December 28th: Sgt. Jimmy Coleman was dispatched to 150 N. Main Street in Yantis with regard to a disturbance. This was the third time on the same date that officers were dispatched to this residence with regard to the same problem between the same two people. On arrival, Sgt. Coleman met with Melissa Teel, who advised that suspect Bill Horn had threatened to harm her. The officer attempted to make contact with Horn. Horn refused to answer the door and used profanity directed at Sgt. Coleman. Lt. Miles Tucker assisted Coleman in making entry to the residence. The officers arrested Horn for assault by threat/family violence.
Also on this date, Sgt. Coleman was dispatched to 153 CR 3984 with regard to a disturbance. The complainants, James and Linda Cox, advised that their son, James Bryn Cox, had become upset and destroyed several items in the home. The suspect, James Bryn Cox, had left the residence before Sgt. Coleman arrived. Coleman, along with Lt. Tucker, conducted a search, but James Bryn Cox was not located. The complainants advised that they wanted James Bryn Cox to receive a criminal trespass warning for their residence.
Also on this date, Deputy Mark Smith was dispatched to 1106 CR 2275 to speak with complainant Lonnie Stone with regard to a window on his vehicle having been broken out. The case is under investigation.
Finally, on this date, Sgt. Coleman was dispatched to a structure fire at 766 CR 4640. On arrival, fire departments from Winnsboro, Perryville and Ogburn were on the scene. The home owner, Mike Branham, stated that his son, Jacob Branham, had seen smoke coming from a storage area underneath a staircase that led to a bedroom above the garage. Mike Branham escorted his family to safety and called 911. Winnsboro Fire Investigator Tommy Carden ruled the fire accidental due to a light underneath the staircase. None of the occupants were injured and the damage to the home was largely to the sheetrock.
December 27th: Deputy Guy Powell was dispatched to 4600 Hwy 69 N (Kelly¢s Corner) with regard to stolen lottery tickets. The complainant, Mary Hockett, advised that an unknown individual had reached over the sales counter and stolen several lottery tickets. After viewing the store¢s in-store video, the suspect was identified as Michael Lee McCullar. A warrant was issued for him. McCullar was arrested on December 29th without incident by Sgt. Timothy Baucom.
Also on this date, Deputy Randy Parrish was dispatched to the Brenda Workman residence at 140 CR 2146 with regard to cruelty to animals with reference to three dogs that looked unhealthy. The dogs did have food and water. Workman has not shown proof that the dogs are under the care of a vet. The case is under investigation.
December 26th: Deputy Parrish was dispatched to 472 CR 1460 with regard to a burglary. On arrival, James Evans II and Nicholas Freitag were on the property with the owners permission. The residence was ransacked and it was determined that several items of value were missing. The case is under investigation.
December 25th: Deputy Chris Bettis received a welfare check call at 3289 Hwy 37 N. After checking the welfare of the female subject at the residence and numerous attempts to get her to give her correct name and date of birth, Melissa Stone was arrested for an outstanding warrant for driving while license invalid and failure to identify a fugitive from justice.
December 24th: Deputy Randy Parrish met with Kristie Patrick in the sheriff¢s department lobby with regard to her ex-boyfriend, Jason France, coming onto her property. The case is under investigation.
December 23rd: Cpl. Mike Taylor was dispatched to 266 CR 4849 with regard to a criminal mischief. The complainant, Billy Saucier, stated that he arrived at the home to inspect it prior to selling it. Saucier advised that when he entered the home, he found that an unknown suspect(s) had painted graffiti throughout the residence and had caused extensive damage to the property. The case is under investigation.
December 21st: Sgt. Coleman made contact with a complainant, Kristie Patrick, in the lobby of the sheriff¢s office. She advised that she had been receiving harassing phone calls from her ex-boyfriend, Jason France. The case is under investigation.
On the same date, Deputy Threadgill was dispatched to 949 CR 1336 with regard to a burglary. The complainant, Johnny Blaylock, advised that he noticed that someone had entered his workshop and that several items were missing. The case is under investigation.
