December 11th: Cpl. Jayson Farmer responded to 1379 CR 4730 with regard to a report of criminal mischief. Several mailboxes were damaged on the county road. The investigation is continuing.
December 10th: Cpl. David Barkley stopped a vehicle on Hwy 80 for failing to maintain a single lane and no license plate light. The driver was identified as Ariel Charles Williams, 21, of Louisiana. Williams did not have a driver's license or current insurance. He was arrested for driving with an invalid license and failing to maintain financial responsibility. He was taken to the Wood County Jail.
December 7th: Cpl. Barkley was on routine patrol and observed a vehicle speeding while traveling north on FM 14. The driver was identified as John Clay Dezelle, 24, of Hawkins. Dezelle did not possess a valid driver's license and he did not have insurance on his vehicle. He was arrested for driving with an invalid license and failure to maintain financial responsibility. Dezelle was taken to the Wood County Jail.
Also on this date, Cpl. Barkley observed a vehicle traveling on Hwy 80 above the speed limit. The driver was identified as Odis Davis Lawrence, 52, of Alba. Lawrence appeared to be intoxicated and smelled of an alcoholic beverage. He had a suspended driver's license. Lawrence was arrested for driving while intoxicated and driving with an invalid license. He was taken to the Wood County Jail.
On this same date, Sgt. Tim Baucom was traveling north on Hwy 37 and stopped a suspect vehicle with regard to a criminal trespass report. The driver was identified as Cody Henderson, 28, of Mineola. Henderson consented to a search of his vehicle and he was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and taken to the Wood County Jail.
Finally on this date, Cpl. Barkley stopped a vehicle for having his high beams on. The driver was identified as Billy Joe Tani, 21, of Hawkins. It was found that he was under the influence of some type of alcoholic beverage. The passenger was identified as Jeremy Keith Sanchez, 19, of Sour Lake, who also appeared to be under the influence of some type of alcoholic beverage. Tani failed some sobriety tests and was arrested for driving while under the influence. Sanchez was arrested for public intoxication and consumption of alcohol by a minor. Both were taken to the Wood County Jail.
December 5th: Cpl. Barkley was on routine patrol in the area of FM 14 and Wilful Crossing when he observed a vehicle with defective tail lights. The driver was identified as Reginald Christian, 23, of Hawkins. Christian had a warrant for a traffic offense. The passenger, identified as Jacalyn L.Splawn, 42, of Hawkins, was found to be in possession of marijuana. Christian also had marijuana on his person. Christian was charged with possession of marijuana under two ounces and possession of drug paraphernalia. Splawn was charged with possession of marijuana under two ounces. Both were taken to the Wood County Jail.
On the same date, Deputy Guy Powell was on routine patrol in the area of Hwy 80 when he saw a vehicle speeding. The driver was identified as Melissa Marie Ghee, 29, of Tyler. Ghee had a suspended driver's license. Ghee was arrested for driving while license invalid and taken to the Wood County Jail.
Also on this date, Deputy Farmer took a theft report from 146 N. Main Street in Yantis. Some unknown person(s) had stolen a 2005 blue Honda four-wheeler from inside a garage. The investigation is continuing.

December 4th: Deputy Mike Taylor assisted Constable Steve Bowser investigate a hit and run accident. The accident happened at the Sonic location in Quitman. Constable Bowser made contact with the registered owner at 115 Johnson Lane in Yantis. The driver was identified as Alan Rodney Teague, 50, of Yantis. The driver was apparently intoxicated. Teague was arrested for public intoxication and taken to the Wood County Jail.
December 2nd: Sgt. Jimmy Coleman was dispatched to the intersection of FM 19 and FM 564 to assist EMS with an unruly patient. A female identified as Tekesha Nicole Lies, 21, of Tyler, was with the patient and she appeared to be intoxicated. Lies admitted to having a needle in the vehicle as well as methamphetamine. Lies was taken to the Wood County Jail and charged with possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine.
On the same date, Sgt. Coleman was traveling south on FM 2869 near Holly Lake and saw a vehicle swerve off the road. The vehicle was stopped and the driver was identified as Forrester Dominic Sotak, 29, of Hawkins. During the traffic stop, Sotak gave consent to search his vehicle. Deputy Aaron Warren found marijuana in the vehicle. Sotak was charged with possession of marijuana under two ounces and taken to the Wood County Jail.
December 1st: Deputy Jayson Farmer was dispatched to take a criminal mischief report from the intersection of FM 182 and CR 1590. Some unknown person(s) stole a 4 foot by 6 foot sign that advertised an RV resort. There are possible suspect(s) and the investigation is continuing.
November 30th: Cpl. Brad Strawn stopped a vehicle for having no license plate light on CR 2100 off Hwy 154. The driver was identified as Jimmy Montrell Evans, 33, of Winnsboro. As the driver exited the vehicle, a crack pipe fell on the ground. As the deputy took steps to detain Evans, Evans began to flee. A scuffle ensued and Evans fled on foot. The deputy pursued him and activated the Taser. It slowed the suspect down for a moment and the deputy activated the Taser again. Evans managed to come back to the vehicle and fled the scene. Cpl. Strawn was unable to catch the subject. Evans was driving a white Chrysler bearing Texas license plate P48JTT. A warrant has been obtained for Evans.
On the same date, Deputy Mark Smith went to 5770 SH 37 in Mineola on a report of a burglary. Some unknown person(s) had stolen several items including a carpet, quilts, dishes and a kitchen sink. The value of the items taken is estimated at $7,000. The investigation is continuing.
Also on this date, Deputy James Carter stopped a vehicle in Hwy 37 traveling at a high rate of speed. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Cory James Wackett, 18, of Quitman. Wackett appeared to be nervous. Deputy Guy Powell and his canine assisted in a search of the vehicle. The K-9 alerted on the vehicle and approximately .79 grams of marijuana was found. Wackett was arrested for possession of marijuana and taken to the Wood County Jail.
November 29th: Deputy Mike Taylor stopped a vehicle on CR 4430 for driving left of center. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Robert Michael Vaughn, 19, of Winnsboro. Vaughn's driver's license was suspended. Vaughn was arrested for driving while license suspended and taken to the Wood County Sheriff's department.
November 28th: Deputy Mike Taylor, while on patrol, conducted a traffic stop for a seatbelt violation on CR 4430 and FM 852 in Winnsboro. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Penny Lee Pritchett, 35, of Winnsboro. Pritchett appeared to have a suspended driver's license. Pritchett was arrested and taken to jail for driving while license suspended.
Also on the date, Cpl. Barkley stopped a vehicle for speeding while he was on patrol on hwy 14 south. The driver was identified as Rickey Lydel Leatch, 29, of Henderson, Texas. Leatch appeared to be very nervous. One passenger in the vehicle was identified as Shakaria Lanae Burt, 20, of Hawkins and another passenger was identified as Michael Wayne Griffin, 11, of Jonesville, Louisiana. Leatch had a suspended driver's license and no insurance. Griffin had a strong odor of marijuana emitting from his person and appeared to be intoxicated. Burt continued to given the deputy false information about her identity. Leatch was arrested for having no valid driver's license and no insurance. Burt was arrested for failure to identify and Griffin was arrested for possession of marijuana and public intoxication. All were taken to the Wood County Jail.
