Cable cost to increase;
Champion renews lease

Meeting in regular session, Monday, November 17, the Hawkins City Council received a communication from Suddenlink regarding upcoming rate increases; renewed the lease with Mother Frances/Champion EMS to house an ambulance at the Hawkins Volunteer Fire Department, and increased the deposit fee requirement for rental/use of the Hawkins Community Center.

Your cable rates are going up if you are a Suddenlink subscriber. The company advised the council of plans to increase several rates with the basic rate to be upped by $2.50 per month. Other elements of the price structure change are available at the company's web site suddenlinkfyi.com/broadcastsurcharge.

The council also approved a contract agreement with Mother Frances hospital Regional Hhealth Care Center of Tyler d.b.a. Champion EMS to lease quarters in the Hawkins Volunteer Fire Department Station for an ambulance and crew. The agreement is for five years at a cost to TMF/Champion of $450 per month.

Council also approved several changes to the policy regarding rental and use of the Hawkins Community Center. The deposit will be doubled to $200 (this is refundable pending cleaning/damage inspection). The person making the use arrangements must provide a driver's license or photo identification. The "No Alcoholic Beverages" rule will be strictly enforced. Persons interested in using the facility should contact Patricia Turner.

A HUD-Code manufactured home siting permit was issued to Marvin Holland for 110 Zona Mae Street. Council also approved a new state mandated ordinance regarding identity theft.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Hawkins City Council is scheduled for Monday, December 15 at 6 p.m. A special meeting of the council can be called with 72 hours public notice.
