Gray receives 40-year sentence for child sexual assault

 Austin Gray, 33, pled guilty to aggravated sexual assault of a child after a contested sentencing hearing. On November 10th, Gray was sentenced to 40 years in prison by Judge Timothy Boswell of the 402nd Judicial District Court of Wood County.


According to Gray's testimony, he had engaged in an inappropriate sexual relationship with his 13-year-old victim. The sentence will be served in the Institutional Division of the Texas department of Criminal Justice.

According to Criminal District Attorney Jim Wheeler, Gray will not be eligible for parole for 20 years. The state's case was presented by Wheeler and Assistant District Attorney Brandon Baade.

In other matters before the court on this date, in a pending double homicide case, Jason Tad Payne had asked the court for a bond reduction. After hearing testimony, Judge Boswell denied bond reduction and ruled that the present bond limits were sufficient.

Finally, Norman D. Cotton was adjudicated guilty of the offense of possession of a controlled substance, Penalty Group 1 - methamphetamine. He was sentenced to a term of confinement of 15 months in the State Jail Division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
