Wood County Sheriff Report

 October 29th: Cpl. David Barkley was dispatched to the Holly Lake Ranch entrance with regard to an intoxicated person. The subject had gone before the deputy arrived. The officer was told he went to the Chevron on FM 2869. The subject proceeded into the restaurant. The subject was identified as Duane Lighthill, 61, of Holly Lake Ranch. Lighthill had entered the restaurant and become belligerent and was staggering. Lighthill was intoxicated and was placed under arrest. He was transported to the Wood County Jail.


October 28th: Deputy Mike Taylor was dispatched to 1774 FM 1801 with regard to an intoxicated person. The person was found walking about. He was identified as Troy Jones, 40, of Daingerfield, Texas. Jones was found to be intoxicated and was arrested for public intoxication. He was taken to the Wood County Jail.

October 26th: Cpl. Barkley was at the intersection of Hwy 80 and Hwy 69 when he saw a vehicle run a red light. The vehicle was stopped and the driver was identified as Jose Rocha, 23, of Mineola. Rocha did not have a driver¢s license or insurance on his vehicle. There was also a passenger who appeared to be sleeping but had a beer in his hand. The passenger was identified as Manual Alvarado, 19, of Mineola. Rocha was arrested for having no driver¢s license and no insurance. Alvarado was arrested for consumption of alcohol by a minor. Both were taken to the Wood County Jail.

October 25th: Deputy Sam Threadgill was dispatched to 401 CR 2298 with regard to a suspicious person. On arrival, the deputy found a man, identified as Troy Jones, 50, of Daingerfield, lying in the woods. The subject stated he was taking a nap but there was the strong odor of alcohol about his person. Jones was placed under arrest for public intoxication and taken to the Wood County Jail.

October 24th: Deputy Threadgill took a burglary report from 506 CR 2335 in Mineola. Some unknown person(s) had damaged a back door to gain entry. There were several items missing including an end table, a fire extinguisher and some clothing. The investigation is continuing.
On the same date, Cpl. Barkley observed a vehicle traveling on Hwy 80 east driving at approximately 83 miles per hour. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Donald Ray Crouch, Jr., 34, of Lafayette, Louisiana. A check of his driver¢s license revealed that his Louisiana driver¢s license was suspended. Crouch was arrested for having no operator¢s license and was taken to the Wood County Jail.

Also on this date, Sgt. Jimmy Coleman was dispatched to 482 CR 1858 with regard to a disturbance. Prior to the officer¢s arrival, Okana Korotetskaya, 42, of Yantis, had left the scene. He was then found a short distance from the scene. Korotetskaya was found to be intoxicated. He was arrested and charged with public intoxication and taken to the Wood County Jail.

During the period, there were 91 males and 13 females at the Wood County Jail. Bookings numbered 35 and there were 43 releases.

Radio primary calls in and out numbered 2,131. The 911 calls totaled 341. Phone calls in and out numbered 1,956 for an overall total of 4,428 calls.

October 22nd: Cpl. Barkley was dispatched to CR 3540 at Holly Lake Ranch on a report of a traffic accident. The driver of the vehicle had run into the woods, however, the passenger was still in the vehicle. The passenger was identified as Teresa Darlene Johnson, 41, of Holly Lake Ranch. Johnson appeared to be intoxicated and claimed not to know who the driver of the vehicle was. Johnson stated they had been at a party. Johnson had given several false statements to the deputy. Johnson was arrested for public intoxication and giving a false report to a peace officer. Johnson was taken to the Wood County Jail. Once at the jail, a bag of marijuana was found on her person. Johnson was also charged with possession of marijuana under two ounces.

On the same date, Sgt. Mark Miller took a burglary report from 238 CR 2502. Some unknown person(s) had stolen a TV, a stereo, saws, an air compressor and other miscellaneous items. There are possible suspect(s) in the case and the investigation is continuing.

October 19th: Deputy Mark Smith took a theft report at a residence on CR 4506 in Winnsboro. Some unknown person(s) had stolen fuel from a lawn mower and also tried to steal fuel from a motor home. The investigation is continuing.

October 18th: Deputy Mark Smith was notified at approximately 3:51 of a possible intoxicated driver traveling on Hwy 80 east of Mineola. While enroute to locate the vehicle, the dispatcher was notified that the vehicle had hit a guard rail and was now traveling on CR 2790. A Smith County deputy was attempting to stop the vehicle. Multiple witnesses had called in who had observed the vehicle leaving the roadway several times. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Delta Sue Lee, 50, of Mineola. When asked to exit her vehicle, Lee was obviously intoxicated. Lee was arrested for driving while intoxicated and taken to the Wood County Jail.

On the same date, Sgt. Michael Wood was at the EZ MART STORE IN Mineola when he saw a vehicle displaying an altered inspection sticker and registration stickers. The driver was identified as Ronnie Dale Melton, 21, of Mineola. Melton advised he did not have a driver¢s license or insurance for the vehicle. Melton was taken to the Wood County Jail and charged with having no driver¢s license, no insurance as well as having an altered motor vehicle registration and an altered motor vehicle inspection.

October 17th: Cpl. Brad Strawn was assisting with traffic control for the DPS troopers and the Yantis Volunteer Fire Department with a major accident scene when he saw a vehicle almost hot two firemen. The driver of the vehicle was identified as David Wayne Garner, 29, of Sulphur Springs. Garner admitted to eating pizza while driving and not paying attention. Via a driver¢s license check, it was found that Garner no driver¢s license, mo insurance and an expired registration. Garner was taken to the Wood County Jail and charged with having no driver¢s license.

On the same date, Sgt. Robert Holland took a burglary report which occurred at 1096 CR 2425 in Mineola. Some unknown person(s) had damaged a front door to enter a residence. Although some items had been disturbed, there did not appear to be anything stolen from inside the residence. The investigation is continuing.
