RV Park management up for bid; Drilling bids: $195K to $435K

 Meeting in regular session Friday, October 17, Wood County Commissioners approved the advertising for bids to manage the Lake Hawkins Recreational Vehicle Park and let the bid for drilling a new water well for Ramey Water Company.

The court approved advertising for bids for the contract to manage the Lake Hawkins Recreational Vehicle Park. John and Estalene Warren, the current managers have managed the park operation for nearly six years. They have applied for a contract renewal. In their letter of application, the Warrens wrote, "We have recently worked with Roger Pace to correct some issues concerning the park and feel we have addressed the issues at hand." Last year the Warrens received $59,400.00 for managing the park.

Ramey Water Supply Company serves rural customers in Wood County, primarily in Precinct-2 outside of Mineola. Ramey bid the drilling of a new water well and installing a submersible pump. Six bids were received ranging from a high bid of $435,000 down to the low bid of $195,410. The low, and winning, bid was submitted by Continnental Drilling of Shreveport, Louisiana.

Gary Weaver, Country Trails, was appointed a board member of Wood County Emergency Services District #1 (Holly Lake).

Commissioners approved three proclamations:
Saturday, October 25, 2008 was proclaimed as "Reuben Leon and Fairess Clark Simmons Day" in honor of the couple who devoted so much of their life to educating the children of Golden, and to service to their community and church.

November was proclaimed 2008 as "Home Care and Hospice Month."

November was also proclaimed as "Domestic Violence Awareness Month."

In other action the court approved:
- payroll of $66,232.55.
- employee/dependent health claims of $40,711.91.
- claims of $340,927.34.
- Constable reports from Precints 1 and 3.
- bid of Medicine Chest for inmate prescription services.
- application for disaster relief grant funds to cover expenses for extensive clean up after storm damage in Precinct-4. Grant funds administered by Texas Office of Rural Community Affairs (OCRA) ($64,549).
- TxDOT Routine Airport Maintenance Plan (RAMP) grant for Wood County Airport (County matches with $695.40).
- renewal of contract with AFLAC for Section 125 enrollment for county employees.
Personnel actions taken at the meeting included:
- Clinton Ronald Norman, resignation, deputy sheriff, WCSO.
- Krisha Joy Bledsoe, resignation, temporary seasonal employee, Wood County Judge.
- Willie Earl McQueen, end of seasonal work, lake keeper, Precinct-1.
The next regular meeting of the Wood County Commissioners Court will be Friday, October 31 at 10 a.m. A special meeting of the court can be called with 72-hour public notice.
