Jarvis cuts Ribbon

E-mail Print PDF

To celebrate the opening of the newly constructed Living and Learning Center at Jarvis Christian College, there will be a scheduled dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, September 12 at 1:30 p.m. Students, alumni, members of the Jarvis Board of Trustees, representatives from Partners, Inc. (contractors), representatives from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), community leaders and area citizens will be on hand to witness this historic event. Additionally, an announcement will be made regarding the official naming of the Living and Learning Center as well as the naming of the Common Area that connects the Center via the courtyard. The event is open to the public.

The ribbon cutting will occur on the Hawkins, Texas campus in the courtyard area of the 300-bed facility that is now occupied by students who have anticipated this moment upon their return for the fall semester. Last year, many students had to endure detours around construction barriers while the structure was being built and they are happy to now see the structure complete and functional. The 65,430 square foot, three-story center not only serves as living quarters for 300 Jarvis students in a suite-like concept, but it is a self contained facility with a fitness room, café, post office boxes, study lounges, computer centers, laundry room, several offices, a courtyard, patio center, and a covered colonnade.

Following the ribbon cutting, a reception will be held honoring the retirement of Dr. Sebetha Jenkins, the 10th President of Jarvis Christian College, who earlier this year, announced her retirement after serving 17 years at the College and more than 50 years in higher education. The retirement reception will begin at 3:30 p.m. and will be held in the Anthony Robinson Varsity Gymnasium.
