On May 22nd the Republican Women of Wood County held a reception in Mineola to honor Kay Sloan who retires this year as Republican county chairman.

Some 70 people attended including county officials and many friends to thank Kay for all she has done for the Republican Party in Wood County over the past eight years.

During the event, a surprise phone call came from Austin. Governor Rick Perry called to add his appreciation of Kay's work for the GOP. State Representative Bryan Hughes dialed the governor through via the cell phone of his assistant, Isobel McGuffin, one of the hostesses of the vent.
Several members of the Republican Women spoke informally about their personal experiences in working with Kay over the years and touched on her many achievements. The speakers included Jeanette Sterner of Holly Lake, the current president of the Republican Women and Helen Heavey of Emory, the newly-elected Chairman of the Republican Party of Wood County.
