Little Sandy Creek Estates OK'd;Dump truck bids to be reviewed

Meeting Friday, January 25 in regular session, Wood County Commissioners approved the plat for a new subdivision in Precinct-3 and opened eight bids for the pruchase of a new dump truck for Precinct-2.

Sandy Creek Estates is a new 9-lot subdivision on 65 acres located at the corner of U.S. 80 and CR-3440 west of Hawkins.

Bids ranging from $53,661 to $72,023 were received in response to advertising for bids for a new dump truck to be used by the Precinct-2 Raod and Bridge crew. Among the eight bids were those for Fords, Chevrolets and International Harvesters from dealers in Tyler, Longview, Sulphur Springs and San Antonio. Precinct-2 Commissioner Jerry Gaskill asked the item be tabled to the next meeting so he could inspect the specific bid contents.

Commissioner Roy Don Shipp, Precinct-1 sought input from the District Attorney's office regarding the proposed transfer of the concession contract at lake Quitman. The concession agreement has been held for several years by Hank and Isla Wisdom, who apparently wish to transfer it to another operator, but no formal request has been submitted. James Wheeler, CDA, advised Shipp to have Wisdom or his attorney contact the CDA office.

In another matter, Wheeler sought and received approval from the court for out-of-state travel for Assistant Criminal District Attorney, Angela Converse, to attend a national training course in prosecuting homicide cases. Cost of registration, travel, hotel and meals for the event are estimated at $1,975.

In other action, the Commissioners approved:
- Payment of claims in the amount of $214,083.95.
- Payroll in the amount of $247,631.39.
- Employee/dependent health claims of $26,468.22.
- Assignment of Paul Banner to 402nd District Court for one day, (January 3, 2008),
- Renewal of Kodak copier maintenance agreements for the County Clerk's office.
- Bid exception and contract with Tyler Technologies InCode for financial software package.
- Resolution for order of exemption from vehicle inscription requirements for undercover vehicles.
- Use of a 2001 Ford as a trade-in for a new Dodge Durango for the Wood County Sheriff's Office ($4,000 in trade-in value).
- 2007 Reserve Deputy hours, ranging from nine hours to 138 hours.
- Release of certain release and pledge securities.
- Resolution recognizing donation of raw materials by Gary Cobb to the Precinct-3 R&B crew ($500 value).
The next regular meeting of the Wood County Commissioners Court will be Friday, February, 8, 2008 at 10 a.m. A special meeting of the court can be called with 72-hour public notice.
