Sheriff requests help from citizens

Wood County Sheriff Dwaine Daugherty is asking for help from any county citizens with regard to the many thefts of copper wire. If you see any suspicious activity regarding copper wire, contact the sheriff's office at 903-763-2201. The Wood County Electric Cooperative has now estimated that approximately $36,000 worth of copper wire has been stolen over the past weeks. The thieves climb the poles and strip the wires, so citizens are asked to be on the alert.

The sheriff also has a reminder for the owners of firearms. He is requesting that you write down the serial numbers of your firearms as well as the make and model.

In order for the sheriff's personnel to enter stolen firearms into the national tracking system, the department must have a serial number. The sheriff adds that it is also a good idea to photograph your firearms.
