Court OK's Auction Participation

 Meeting in regular session Friday, February 9 the Wood County Commissioners Court approved of the county participating in the Vaughn Auction on March 8 as a buyer and a seller. The court also approved a request by Precinct 3 Commissioner Roger Pace, to seek bids on two new dump trucks. The court also approved the creation of a Wood County Airport Zoning Board and appointed five members to serve on that board.
Commissioner Jerry Galloway, Precinct 4, was not present for the meeting.

Several departments within county government will be providing surplus equipment to be sold at the Vaughn Auction on Thursday, March 8. The auction is located near Canton at 24280 I-20 (Exit 19). The county may also participate as a buyer at the auction. Two local government codes were cited for a discretionary exemption to the competitive bidding provisions in state law. Two commissioners indicated they planned to dispose of surplus equipment at the auction.

In another action related to equipment, the court approved advertising for bids on two new dump trucks for use by the Precinct-3 Road & Bridge crew. March 23 was set for the opening of bids on the trucks.

Commissioners created an Airport Zoning Board to exercise powers authorized by such boards-primarily setting and enforcing height restrictions for structures to be built in proximity to airports in Wood County. Five members were appointed to the board, they are: Glenn Thurman, Tom Pegues, Steve Fairbanks, Vince Colvin and Wayne Collins.

Commissioners also approved:
- Claims of $694,890.79.
- Two-week payroll of $242,723.10.
- Two-week employee/family health claims of $41,603.00.
- Report of Precinct-1 Constable Steve Bowser's activity report.
- Renewal of memorandum of agreement with Northeast Public Health District to provide disease surveillance and public health emergency preparedness activities for Wood County.
- Update of Equal Opportunity Employer Plan.
- Sale of tax sale property to Mike Ferguson. Property in Mineola was formerly owned by Billie C. Williams. All taxes will be paid and property will be placed back on tax rolls.
- Contract with Safeguard Imaging, LLC, for back-up imaging of plat records at a cost of $14,715.50.
- Report from Sheriff re: hours of service (1,670) in calendar year 2006 for reserve deputies.
- Updates to the Longevity policy as it applies to part-time employees.
- 2007 Longevity policy.
- Contracts for two postage machines at $449/month and $475/month including certain improvements to the machines.
- Classification (definitions) of part-time and temporary employees and insertion into personnel policies.
Personnel actions approved, were:
- Six part-time employees in various departments, eligible for retirement benefits due to new state regulations.
- Wade R. Mauer, resignation, jailer, WCSO.
- Charity McLemore, resignation, dispatcher, WCSO.
- Bobby Harill Mathis, resignation, part-time, Upper Sabine Valley Solid Waste District.
- Heather Rae Sumpter, new hire, deputy clerk II, County Clerk, $11,60/hour.
- Deidra Tackett, change in status from part-time to temporary, Tax Assessor/Collector.
- Paula Bailey, change in status from part-time to temporary, Tax Assessor/Collector.
The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Wood County Commissioners Court is Friday, February 23 at 10 a.m. A special meeting of the court can be called with 72-hour public notice.
