Meeting in regular session Tuesday, August 7 the board of directors of the Hawkins Community Development Corporation accepted a bid of $31,250 for improvements in the lighting system at the baseball fields at the Hawkins Youth Sports Park. HCDC directors also approved a marketing/promotions payment of $1,200 to the Hawkins Area Chamber of Commerce.

The successful bidder on the lighting project at the sports park with a bid of $31,250 was Mark Turrentine of TT&L. Turrentine said the work is expected to take approximately 60 days after it begins. In a related matter, Mayor Sam Bradley reported a quote of $300 to perform an inspection and treatment program for each light pole at the baseball fields. There are 25 poles at the sports park, some of which have been in place for 30-plus years.

Jerry Jones, treasurer, reported a cash balance of $37,969.69 for HCDC at the end of July.

Gary McKinley of the Wood County Industrial Commission advised the board of a new economic development publication serving East Texas. "Business Images" will be published annually with the inaugural issue available in January 2008. He provided board members with literature regarding the publication. McKinley also reminded HCDC directors of the call for tourism development proposals due to WCIC September 27, 2007.

The next meeting of the HCDC is scheduled for Tuesday, September 4 at 4 p.m. A special meeting of the board can be called with 72-hours public notice.
