E-mail Print PDF

If you have relatives or friends hit by the recent rains, it may help them to know that volunteer lawyers from throughout the state of Texas are assisting people with basic legal questions following the severe storms and flooding through the State Bar of Texas Free Legal Hotline.

The number is 800-504-7030. Additional resources to assist those impacted by natural disasters are available at www.texasbar.com. The hotline, answered in English and Spanish, is intended to help low-income storm victims with such issues as replacing lost documents, insurance questions, landlord/tenant disputes and consumer protection. Volunteer attorneys will assist residents of counties that are included in the recent federal disaster declarations. These are Archer, Bell, Burnet, Cooke, Coryell, Denton, Eastland, Grayson, Hood, Parker, Starr, Tarrant, Victoria, Webb, Wichita and Williamson.

To apply for assistance with housing, home repairs and uninsured property losses, residents should contact the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) at www.fema.gov or call the FEMA Disaster Aid Hotline at 800-621-3362.

Texas attorneys willing to help respond to hotline calls are asked to visit

texasbar.com and click on volunteer interest form.
