Hawkins ISD is named among winners of risk management award

 At their regular meeting May 7th, Hawkins school board members learned that their district is among the ten districts in the state that are winners of a $1,000 award to be used toward their risk management efforts.

The award is the fourth annual Texas Association of School Boards' Risk Management Innovation Award. The awards and checks were presented at the Fund Members; Conference on April 23rd in Austin. Dubravka Romano, TASB associate executive director said, "Applications were rated on cost effectiveness, originality, transferability for use by other Fund members, and ability to address current needs at the overall member level. Recipient of the Innovation Award set an excellent example of timely, creative, and effective approaches to risk management that we hope other funds members will emulate."

Following the regular reports, there were several action items. The bakery bid for 2007-2008 went to Sara Lee Food & Beverage. The milk bid went to Oak Farms Dairy and the ice cream bid went to Blue Bell Creameries.
On the extras and credit for the building program, board members passed PR12 and PR23 for renovation and upgrade of water service at a total of $69,745. No action was taken on PR1 and PR35.

Additionally, no action was taken on agenda 13 which was a policy change consideration - site based committee - BQB (local).

The board set May 16th at 8 a.m. as the date for the canvassing meeting for the May 12 election results. They also decided the July board meeting would be July 5th at 7 p.m.

In his report, the superintendent reviewed the architect's report, the commercial services agreement with Suddenlink, student honors and scholarships, and announced that the room reservations had been made for the TABS Summer Leadership training session June 14th through 16th and that the last May to cancel without penalty in May 23rd.

The board also passed the MAC Intergovernmental Cooperation Agreement & Business Associate Agreement.

In the area of employment, Laurel Greenlaw, Marcy Sauer, and Cara Fair were hired for the elementary school. Alan Philips was hired for the position of high school IPC/coach.
