Pastor David Hicks

The late Rev. Charles Allen, former long-time pastor of First United Methodist Church in Houston once told a story about a trip he made to New York City. He said that he got lost in the labyrinth of streets that looked like canyons. So he asked a man on the street for directions. But the man replied, "I'm a stranger here myself." Rev. Allen thought to himself, "I've been foolish. In a city there is one person who always knows the way." So he found a policeman who quickly directed him. After he gave directions, the policeman added, half humorously, "If you wish to save time, call a cab. The cab drivers always know directions." The first cabby Rev. Allen hailed not only saved him time and effort, but also promptly delivered him to the right location. Along the road of life we are not without One who can show us the right road to travel. "Commit thy way unto the Lord; and trust also in him" (Psalm 37:5).
