Wood County Commissioners Court

E-mail Print PDF
Meeting in regular session Friday, April 16, Wood County Commissioners listened to the plea from a Wood County citizen to post "No Alcohol" signs at the county's four precinct lakes and set bid opening dates on bulk fuel and a mobile emergency services command trailer.
County Judge Bryan Jeanes and Precinct-2 Commissioner Jerry Gaskill were not present. Roger Pace, Precinct-3 Commissioner, presided over the meeting.
Mike Neeley, who lives on CR 3250, took advantage of the public comments entry on the agenda to question why "No Alcohol" postings are not present at the four county lakes and why the sheriff's department is not more aggressive in enforcing the law which already exists. Drinking at Lake Hawkins and Lake Holbrook have been issues in the recent past. As is the practice with public comments, commissioners did not engage in any exchange with Neeley on the issue.
A grant program through Homeland Security will completely fund the purchase of a command trailer for use by local emergency officials. A bid opening date of May 26 was set by commissioners with consideration on the agenda of the May 28 meeting of the court. The county is seeking bids on bulk fuel for the four precinct road crews and for the sheriff's department. Bids will be opened May 13 and considered at the May 14 regular meeting of the court.
Commissioners also approved the installation of an engraved star on the newly replaced concrete walkway on the East side of the courthouse.
In other action the court approved:
- a two-week County payroll of $293,344.09.
- claims and payments totaling $282,092.57.
- employee and family health care claims of $50,430.04.
- activity reports from all four constables.
- public hearing on flood damage prevention ordinance for May 14.
- tax sale of two lots in Sun Eagle Bay subdivision in Precinct-1 for 600 to bidder Jody Seidel.
- pauper burial expense of $350.
- donation of surplus county property to Goodwill in Mineola.
Personnel actions include:
- Paula K. Bailey, separation, end of temporary work, Tax Assessor/Collector's Office, $9.00/hour.
- Matthew L. George, separation, end of temporary work, Precinct-2 R&B, $9.00/hour.
- Leon Williams, separation, end of temporary employment, Precinct-3 R&B, 9.00/hour.
The next regular meeting of the Wood County Commissioners Court will be Friday, April 29, 2010 at 10 a.m. A special meeting of the court can be called with 72-hour public notice.
