Annual Banquet set March 29 at School
By JOHN SPARKS

The Hawkins Chamber of Commerce has selected Thursday, March 29 as the date for the organization's annual banquet. This year's event will be held at the new cafetorium on the campus of the Hawkins Independent School District.

The date and location was confirmed at the Tuesday, February 5 meeting of the Chamber. Members also heard reports on from several of the sub-committees working on the banquet. It was reported that the popular three-meat barbeque from Smokehouse BBQ caterers would again be featured as the entrée at a cost of $6.95 ($7.95 with desert).

Newly-elected Chamber President Keith Ridgeway was not present. He has recently been promoted to a new position with Brookshires Corporation and had some pressing duties. He pledged to combine civic and corporate responsibilities with the help of the other officers and members of the organization. Meetings of the organization traditionally held monthly and on the first Monday, may be changed to meet Ridgeway's schedule.

Mayor Sam Bradley advised of plans to restore and repaint the water tower. He said the work would take from 30-to-90 days to complete and will start early this spring. He called upon the Chamber to assist in getting out the word about no outside irrigation or unnecessary water consumption and no outside burning.
